Surefire Way to Simplify Technology

blogging tips example

This is the remote control for my grandmother’s television. She was feeling overwhelmed by all the buttons on it, so we were going to give her a walk-through of the different functions, but my Aunt had a better idea to simplify it all…No need to clutter your mind with unnecessary information. This is the strictly ‘need to know basis’ method for teaching people how to use a tv remote.

Simplifying the Television Remote Control

Here are the required items for the procedure:

- 1 piece of paper large enough to cover 3/4 of the remote control’s surface
- 3 pieces of duct tape
- 1 writing utensil such as a pen
- 1 pair of scissors

And now the step-by-step process:

1) Decide which buttons are absolutely necessary to watch cable television.
2) Apply the piece of paper unto the remote control’s surface.
3) With the scissors, cut the piece of paper so that only the necessary buttons are showing. The rest of the buttons should be hidden below the paper.
4) Use the pieces of duct tap to fasten the paper unto the remote control.
5) With the writing utensil, apply a warning or instruction message such as “Use Only These Buttons” unto the paper.

There you have it. I thought this was a bit humorous and that maybe y’all would get a kick out of it too. I love you Grandma!

      Hehe this was actually done a while ago. It was meant to prevent my grandfather from pressing the wrong buttons, so we were going to show my grandmother how to use it so she could teach him. But yeah, this was a better idea. My grandfather passed away a couple of years ago, and the remote control still remains this way…

      I’ve done this with my grandfather’s remote. All those buttons and he only gets to use 5.
      :)

      haha, that’s funny and logical!
      I pulled certain buttons off my cable remote so I could easily identify the channel up and down buttons in the dark or to adjust the volume if I couldn’t take my eyes off the tv…. sad I know…

      Pulling the buttons off is another option lol. It’s a rather large remote control though so that would take a lot of time. :)

      I work for a pay-tv company and this should seriously be mandatory for most customers, not just grandma’s. Brilliant

      Would this work for my in-laws computer? I keep having to fix it for them.

      @DJ
      That would be more aesthetically pleasing. Thanks for the heads up.

      @Stephanie
      I wish it would work that way for computers also, but unfortunately I don’t think so. ;)
