IBM Releases Lotus Symphony Beta
Tired of supporting Microsoft moguls by purchasing the overpriced (ranging from $150-500) Office 2007? Well, IBM has an alternative to Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office…a free Open-Document Format (ODF) Office Suite called Lotus Symphony.
According to the IBM site, Lotus Symphony offers advanced features for all users - home, business, and developers. It supports Microsoft Office files and allows you to export files into PDF format. The suite is available for Microsoft Windows and Linux platforms.
Whether you’re looking to ’stick it’ to Microsoft or just need a more affordable suite of tools, Lotus Symphony is worth a testrun.
Also of Note…

For those of you who don’t already know. Another worthy competitor on the rise is Sun’s OpenOffice.org. OpenOffice.org Version 2.0 was released in October 2005. It is available for Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac, Linux, and Solaris.

thanks for the info. i tried openoffice already but i haven’t heard of lotus.
I recommend the free programs to home users. It may lack functionality for business and corporate users.
I heard about lotus but have never tried it. I tried openoffice but don’t like it much… But it has one big advantage. It’s free.
