Free Licensed Software

Hmmm…you might be thinking, there’s no such thing as a free lunch…a good, legal one anyway. You’re probably right, but there’s a site that offers free downloads of fully-licensed, 100% legal software.

The title sums if up. They offer one software title every 24 hours (There’s also Game Giveaway of the Day offering one game title every 24 hours). I should let you know, don’t expect to find software from publishers such as Adobe, Microsoft, or Corel.

How the Project Works

Publishers (usually lesser known ones) submit their software to Giveaway of the Day (GOTD). GOTD then chooses which application they want to review and feature. Once the application is chosen, it is then featured on the GOTD website and a link to a fully-licensed version download is given. That specific application will remain on the site for 24 hours. After the 24 hour period, a new application is featured. This gives publishers a way to advertise their products and users the ability to fully review all the features of the product (as opposed to trial versions which either expire after a certain amount of days, or has ability limitation).

Personal Experience

Remember that once you download a program or game from GOTD, you must install it to your computer before the 24 hour period is up. Otherwise it isn’t free anymore. There is a time countdown button on the site that conveniently lets you know how much more time there is for an offer.

In my opinion, I’d say that there’s a 50/50 chance you might find an app that will either suit your needs or you will find interesting. I have downloaded several apps and games from them. Here are some titles that I still have installed on my computer:
