Blogging Zoom is less than a month old, and already this project has been generating major buzz in the blogosphere. I’ve been putting off reviewing it for some time because I’ve been on the fence between whether or not I thought it was worth it. Now, I’m convinced that it’s a great concept with a great cause.
For those who have not yet heard, Blogging Zoom is a Digg-like social bookmarking site exclusively for blog content. No, you don’t have to be a blogger to use the service, but only blog content can be submitted. So as not to misinform you by my interpretation of the creators of Blogging Zoom’s intentions, here’s a quote from Courtney Tuttle’s article entitled “The Blogging Zoom - Blogger’s Coup Against the Mainstream Media Monsters” about what the project is designed to do:
“1. Give bloggers the opportunity to submit every post written to a place where they can benefit from professional SEO expertise. For those of you that struggle to get search traffic, this alone can help you to grow exponentially. This entire system will be based on the fact that we will promote your individual posts. Before you start worrying that we will be charging for this, stop right there - this service will be 100% free.
2. Provide a social hub where bloggers can share ideas, learn to better themselves, and receive deserved, huge bursts of traffic to their quality content - without the competition from the big sites that currently have 8,000,000 different advantages on us. This organized, group attack will help every single one of you to get a bigger and well-deserved audience.”
Unlike many other mainstream social bookmarking sites, you are NOT penalized for submitting your own content. With that said, every blogger loves traffic and attention. If you feel your blog has room for improvement in this area, this service can help you in a three-fold way:
First, because only blog content is allowed for submission, this means that you won’t be competing for attention with spammers, and large sites such as CNN. This increases your chances of getting your submissions on the front page.
Second, this affords your blog with the possibility to receive more relevant traffic and exposure from other bloggers using the service. Thus, you are better able to connect and form social alliances with blogger’s within your niche.
Third, submitting your posts to Blogging Zoom will help your content rank better in search engines. When I started submitting posts, I felt like it was a pain that you were required to write a lengthy description of the post. One of the reasons for this is that the longer [and more meaningful] the description, the better the chances for your post to rank well in search engines. I tested Blogging Zoom’s SEO with the SEO Text Browser at DomainTools.com. It scored 83%, as did Technorati.com. However, unlike Technorati, BZ is still in its infancy stages.
I received some extra traffic from BZ, and I am pleased with the results. Out of 6 posts that I submitted of my own, 4 made it to the front page . I haven’t yet seen any obvious increases as far as SE rankings go though, but I’m thinking this will take effect eventually. I will do a follow-up post on my findings.
A main objective of the BZ ‘movement’ is to give bloggers the attention they deserve. Deserve is the key word here. I feel that in order for the ‘movement’ to work, we as bloggers need to be honest and ethical users of the service. I’ve been making an extra effort to browse through the submitted articles and zoom the ones that I found interesting and informative. What I need to work on is submitting other blogger’s posts to be zoomed…it pains me to fill in the lengthy description part of the submission process, but I’m aware that it is a ‘necessary evil’.
I am interested in getting other blogger’s opinions on BZ. What are your impressions on it? Any great results for your blog?

I find Bloggingzoom one of the friendliest sites I have been on. Just about all my post have been well received and I have gain some excellent advice for more experienced blogger. My traffic from Bloggingzoom is increasing daily. This is more than can be said of BlogRush from which I have had about 6 or 7 visitors to my blog.
Loved your review on Blogging zoom, I will put a link to your article on my blog.
Thanks
Pablo
Glad to hear you’ve had good results with BZ. Thanks Pablo!
The problem I have is that I have a image blog and they want a 350 word description or except which I cannot provide.
Yeah, that can be a problem for you. If you drop a comment on Court’s or Vic’s blog in a BZ post, they’ll probably take that into consideration.

Kool. I signed up and posted a few things on it today. It doesnt look like it will bring me as much traffic as Digg, but its worth a try! fingers crossed
@Noddegamra
How much traffic do you get from Digg? I haven’t had much success with them.
I really like BloggingZoom and have had a good increase in traffic and RSS subscriptions since I started zooming my posts. I’ve had a good response with others zooming my posts and becoming friends. Especially for a small, relatively new blog it’s a good way to increase your exposure.
BloggingZoom rocks! I got new traffic to my site and found your site too through it.
Isn’t the world a better place when we all get along?
@Janet

@Jeff
Yup, the world is definitely a better place when we all get along!
