Fresh Eyecandy: Top 6 Recent Tech Movies

31 October 07

My Netflix queue is dwindling, so I was browsing through their collection to add more movies. Here’s a list of 6 tech-related movies that I found highly entertaining. Are they educational? Well made? I’ll leave that up to you to decide. But entertaining is the word of the day. So here goes:

6. Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Well, it was better than I thought it would be. Yes, it was entertaining although seeing it once is more than enough for me. I thought it was a little cheesy, but what movie based on a comic book isn’t? If you’re a comic fan, or a fan of Jessica Alba, you’ll probably feel a need to see it. If not…I’ll leave that up to you.

5. The Last Mimzy

This family movie was surprisingly entertaining and refreshingly cute, although there were a couple of creepy moments (I don’t want to go into detail for fear of giving the story away). The fate of the future, and the world as we know it, rests in the hands of these two ’special’ siblings. I have a feeling this is a family movie that the whole family won’t enjoy…but I liked it.

4. Spider-Man 3

Tobey Maguire was a riot in this movie (I don’t know if he was supposed to be funny though). I’m sure most of you know what Spiderman’s about, so I’ll spare you the explanation. I think this movie was the most entertaining and visually intense out of the trilogy.

3. Meet The Robinsons

This is the best movie I’ve seen from Disney in a long time. It’s something the whole family can enjoy…not just the kids. Young orphan Lewis is an inventor. He desperately wants to be adopted, but his inventive genius scares potential parents away. Lewis travels to the future and Meets the Robinsons. Bill Zwecker (Chicago Times) hit it right on the nose when he wrote “Though state-of-the-art technically, I think you’ll find there’s a healthy, old-fashioned feel to this movie — one that will make you. ..all warm ‘n fuzzy inside.”

2. The Bourne Ultimatum

See Jason…See Jason on the run…again. Ultimatum is the third addition to the Bourne series of movies, but is it the last? I was left with a few questions about Julia Stiles character. As with all 3 Bourne movies, Ultimatum maintained a steady, action-packed pace throughout the whole movie. There were a few parts when I felt I needed to take a break from all the spinning and action sequences, but all in all it was a great experience.

1. Transformers

Oh, yeah! This blockbuster was released on DVD today. Autobots, Decepticons, a best boy, the best boy’s love interests, and a plot to destroy the world…What more could you ask for out of the action-adventure thriller genre. I have yet to talk to someone who didn’t like this movie.

Well, as always, I appreciate your personal opinions so feel free to leave a comment and disagree or agree.
