American Idol’s new season has just started, and the frenzy and buzz is starting to regenerate. I wrote an article a couple of weeks back on how American Idol judges relate to blog reviews and commenting. Another way American Idol relates to blogging is that the contestants are marketers.
American Idol contestants are marketers. They sell themselves and their performing talents to the crowd attempting to gain favor and votes.
Bloggers are marketers. Even if you’re not trying to sell anything outright, your blog is your product. Your content is what you’re essentially ‘pimping’ out.
All contestants have the same audience. However, in order for a single contestant to persuade a large amount of the audience to focus the attention on him, being remarkable and outstanding is a must.
The contestant doesn’t have to be the best singer to survive in the contest. Likability along with a good song choice (relevance) has taken many contestants far into the end-stages of the competition.
Because the audience chooses who wins the contest, personality sometimes trumps content. However, this can only take one so far.
All bloggers in a specific niche have the same audience. In order for a specific blogger to persuade a significant amount of that audience to read his content, standing out is a must.
You may not have to be the most intelligent person out there to receive attention. What may be required is to be outstanding like a sore thumb…or purple cow, creativity, relevance, and marketing strategy…this makes up for a lot.
Just a seemingly catchy title…I in no way claim to be one
. So, what are your views on the importance of creativity and marketing strategy and promotion?
