PNY Technologies and Ironkey have announced their partnership to make IronKey’s Hardware-Encrypted, Military-Grade USB Flash Device available to retailers. Ironkey installs a military-grade Cryptochip into each storage device that they produce. According to Ironkey.com, the “Cryptochip scrambles your data with encryption algorithms that are so strong, they are approved for protecting sensitive government and Department of Defense data. The IronKey also resists advanced cyberattacks with its state-of-the-art key management. Security geeks should learn more about IronKey’s security architecture.
Also, the IronKey Cryptochip was created using the latest nanometer-scale semiconductor technology, so it encrypts your data at ultra-high speed—virtually as fast as your computer writes files to a conventional drive.”

The USB flash device is available at PNY.com for an MSRP of $149.99. It is titled “4GB IronKey Hardware-encrypted USB 2.0 Flash Drive”, is designed for Win XP and Vista, and comes equipped with a metal waterproof and tamperproof case.

I don’t need that much security on a flash drive. It is too expensive.
I agree that it’s somewhat impractical for a typical user, but isn’t it a little geeky cool?
