In how many directions can you see at once? Perhaps two or three. If you had a handful of people to assist you, in how many directions and angles would you be able to see now?
As blog authors, sometimes we can only see our work in one perspective. However, if there were others to lend their eyes, they could offer us fresh slants and perspectives that we would otherwise never discover ourselves.
Project Fresh Slant is a blogging network project designed to do just that. Every week, a blog will be picked to discover and review. The review will consist of a summary, an appearance and readability analysis, general thoughts, and ideas on improvement. On Wednesdays, starting next week (December 19) I will be posting the review, and open the audience discussion.
We’ll all visit the blog in focus, have a look around, and provide some support. We will also leave our commendation and recommendations at the discussion on the review post here so that we can have fun picking each others brains, fuse our combined creative juices, and form lasting friendships.
Project Fresh Slant was formed in an effort to create a sense of community where all users will receive benefit. It’s an affordable (meaning absolutely free) way to not only get your blog out there, but also to formulate options for enhancing it.
Fresh Slant provides a convenient way to discover new blogs and get discovered, network and form friendships with like-minded bloggers, and feed off of each other’s ideas and perspectives. The blog in review will not be the only one to benefit because we can all gather something useful from the interchange.
I will make sure that everyone who wants a review, and actively participates and contributes to the project, will receive one. If we form a support system where we all give as well as take, and view fellow bloggers more as positive catalysts rather than competition, this will make it easier for all of us to progress.
All bloggers who have a regularly updated blog (that does not deal with gambling, religion, porn, or anything of an illegal or improper nature) are welcomed! Joining in is easy to do. Just drop a line in this post saying you are participating, and don’t forget to mention your blog url. I will edit this post to include a list of names of all the participants. Then, stay tuned for the project launch on December 19 when I will post the first review.
Be an active participant and supporter so we can all benefit. As I mentioned before, I will make sure that everyone receives a turn.
The more people we get to join in, the more ideas and creative juice there will be to go around. So join in, help spread the word, and stay tuned for updates and the official launch next week Wednesday.

I agree with you that different people have different views. Having more heads to think means more ideas. I salute you for that.
Wow, another great idea. I found your site because of the post at winningtheweb and it looks even more like a great idea after checking out your blog so props to Gyutae!
And this sounds like another great idea and could work well with his project.
Although I am newer to the actual “blogging” world, I’d be interested in taking part. So add me to the list ;).
I’m actually not sure which of my two blogs would be better and in fact open to suggestions on even that lol. I have my “personal” blog with my experiences and what I learn along the way but doesn’t have a lot of focus and might not be a very good read (www.DotDriven.com) and then I have a one that is more focussed and specific but less personal (www.TalkDots.com). Ideally I’d like to grow them both more over time and really if one grows from experience the other would as well naturally but not sure which I should focus on most right now.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing the official launch :). And again, great idea!
@Paula
Thanks for your thoughts.
@Good Domain Names
Thanks for joining in. I’ve checked your blogs out, and they look well-designed. I’m looking forward to networking with you.
So this is the idea you’re talking about. Great idea, as usual. Loves the idea. A wise young lady once told me, “the more the merrier… “ or something like that,
In the distance I heard a voice said, “Who wants to participate?”
Putting up my hand and waving wildly I said, “Me! Me!” My url, Web Directory, is the name.
What? My other blog? Nah! That one is on her own, with her special friends.
I brought nothing, but Greetings and lotta loves from Malaysia.
Dam good idea! I too am new to blogging, but I think I’m getting there. I know networking is one of my weak areas as I’m not really a social animal in RL. So I’d like to take part in this.
any review is a good review. Count me in and good luck on your new project.
More heads is better than one. I would like to get more feedbacks on my site. I’d like to join.
@Arahman7, Colin King, Rotus, and drt
Great! Welcome aboard, and thanks for the support. Also, don’t forget to leave your blog URLs here.
j.blu, If you roll your mouse over our names, here, you will see the URL. It’s a link.
However, mine is rotus.wordpress.com
@Rotus
, but many users have more than one blog so just to be sure I’d like everyone to leave the link to their ‘main’ blog that you want reviewed in this post. Thanks again
Yes, I realize that signatures contain links
Well then, add this one too. Thanks
residentreader.blogspot.com
I’m absolutely in, and looking forward to it. Site is BloggingNotes.net
I’m game, just don’t slam me because I’m a tender sole. Sorta. Great concept.

@Rod and Beth
Great! Thanks for your support
So far we’ve got 7 people…
I’m going to assume this is the project that we discussed earlier… so yeah, I’m in. Very nice idea.
I’m looking forward to it.
Sounds like fun!
Looking forward to the launch.
betshopboy
@Jeff
Indeed it is.
@betshopboy
Thanks for joining us.
With Jeff and betshopboy that makes 9
Sounds like a good idea, not entirely novel in its basic review form.
A longer term benefit of Fresh Slat project might come from some sort of repository of lessons learned, tips and tricks that could be crowdsourced (i.e. constantly updated by ~5% interested blogger) - maybe as a Wiki page. Anyway, blogging, online advertising and SEO best practices are changing every week.
What do you think?
@Shonzilla
Perhaps it’s not entirely novel, but it’s a start. I do plan on writing repository posts based on user feedback once the project has been in action for a few weeks.
A Wiki sounds like a great idea, but not my intended project as it is a larger one than I can handle at the present. Fresh Slant was meant to be a small blogger networking project. I’ve got the basic system and idea down, so we’ll all take it from there.
I run this blog by myself, and as I’m also busy with other projects at hand, I’m just taking it one step at a time. If other bloggers would like to contribute to the extension of the project, I’m open to it. Feel free to contact me.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Sounds like a great idea I would like to get into.

@ j.blu: thx for the opportunity, my URL is:
A Geek’s Journey
Hey JBlu,
Put me in too. http://www.winningtheweb.com
Glad to see you’re thinking of some great ideas.
Great, thanks for the support Gyutae.
This sounds like a great way to get to know other bloggers. Please count me in. My blog is newestonthenet.com. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone here.
@Fred
Welcome aboard
Hi J.blu, Sorry it took me so long to join, Have had a busy week. Would be delighted to sign up to your new project.
@Mike
Nice to have you on board. Alright, that makes 14 of us.
Really cool there is already a decent sized group already! Although bigger may be better in the long run, it might be nice having it with this amount as it will make it a bit easier to get to know each other :).
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out but regardless, should be able to find some great blogs and meet some cool people.
@DotDriven
I’m looking forward to it as well. The launch is just a few days away, so I’ll be posting an update soon.
Although I know part of your thinking was to organize it all here and such, if you think it gets big enough and justifies a cool little site just for us I have the perfect domain we could use lol: AlliedBlogs.com
Planned to set something like this up a while back but you know how it is when it comes to 10,000 project ideas and never enough time lol.
elo j.blu,
actually i am too shy to invite you to see my blog. hehe really..when text link ad want to pay me 2.50 permonth hehe
i was just like “are u sure ?” and keep emailing him for several times to confirm it.hehhe
but if you all can give some idea, new niche, or what so ever tips then please please visit my blog
http://www.blog.lankapo.com
@DotDriven
Have you started with a ‘blueprint’ yet?
@Lankapo
Sure, we’ll add you to the list also
No, not at all. Just thought it would be cool but never got much further than grabbing a domain lol. But that is why I jumped on your idea…always liked the idea but never did much to do anything myself.
Part of the reason was I haven’t been much of a blogger even though I have been online and working on sites for a while now. But now I hope to keep a blog or two actually updated and active lol.
I must say that the For Us By Us mentality of fresh slant is something I support and would love to be a part of. While Problogger has been doing community Consultings for a month or so if you take this a few steps further, it could be a great learning resource.
-Develop a consistent format for the review, including a few template questions for the blogger to answer in advance of the review (What are your goals for the site, what areas are you most interested in feedback, etc)
-If people are serious about updating based on feedback, have a scheduled follow-up post +2 months that checks back on the site to see how it has improved (or not).
-Document a simple database of characteristics of the blog being reviewed (# of columns? niche? colour? single / multi-author? etc) so that the site becomes a searchable resource. Reading critiques of a site that has similar concepts to one I might contemplate as inspiration for design would be very useful.
Will it be hosted through this domain or something else? freshslant.com already has a magazine going on it but DotDriven has the domain alliedblogs.com which sounds like a pretty good URL to me.
Count me in!
P.S. I’m in the process of planning a near complete overhaul re-design of my site for late Jan / Feb. I would be interested a “pre-critique” if such a thing is possible. It would have most value impact if that could occur when my content structure mapped and rough design completed in photoshop before I started to cut the graphics up and code it.
The before / after concept I mentioned above would be most interesting to see just how much value getting input from other designers can benefit a project.
Hi Jamie. I wasn’t aware that there was already a freshslant.com, so thanks for informing me.
The project will be hosted here at fresh geeks as so far , as I’m not exactly sure how big (or small) the actual turnout will be. If participants are active and contributive, I’m definitely open to transferring the project to its own site. However, I would like to have a network base before undertaking a project of that proportion.
A consistent format is something I have thought up, and I have already contacted my first reviewee with basic questions to be answered.
As for reviewing similar blog niches and design types, I have already promised that I would review 1 blog of each person that actively contributes to the program, so I’m not sure if that would be possible. It’s possible to break reviews down into categories, which I do intend to do.
Thanks for joining us, and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions or ideas or would like to talk more about expansion
@Jamie
A pre-critique sounds like a great case study. If you email me a more details, I’ll be happy to collaborate and work something out with you.

Okay, I’m so curious what you think but only if you’re a Paula.
No, really I could use a good honest review, public humiliation and all.
