I wrote a post about backlink building tips back in December, and have been receiving a handful of questions from readers about how you can tell if a blog or website is truly dofollow?
Well there are basically two ways to tell if links are nofollow or dofollow.
The manual way to find out if a link is dofollow is by viewing the pagesource of a specific page. Simply find the url you’re looking for. If it does not have the rel=”nofollow” attribute within the link code, it is a followed link.
Here’s an example of a followed (or dofollow) link:
<a href="http://www.freshgeeks.com">Blogging Tips</a>
Here are two examples of links that have the nofollow attribute and are not followed:
<a href="http://www.freshgeeks.com" rel="nofollow">Blogging Tips</a>
<a href="http://www.freshgeeks.com" rel="external nofollow">Blogging Tips</a>
Here’s an example of a followed link in the comments section of a blog using the dofollow plugin.
<a href="http://www.freshgeeks.com" rel="external ">Blogging Tips</a>
What’s the difference between “nofollow” and “external nofollow”?
Well, I’m wondering the same thing. Since I couldn’t find a solid answer to this question anywhere, I believe this probably means that there’s not a very important difference between the two, and they essentially are the same: you get no link juice from Google on both of them.

There’s a much easier method to finding dofollow links on specific websites. NoDoFollow provides the nearly perfect solution.
NoDoFollow is a Firefox plugin that highlights all links on a web page with either the color blue or red. You can see an example of the highlighting in the snap shots of the Fresh Geeks Blogging Guides home page above. Blue means the link is dofollow, and red means that the link is a nofollow one.
*I plan on posting a list of dofollow social bookmarking sites that I use personally to assist you all in your backlink building quest, so be sure to stay tuned in for that if you’re interested in more link building resources.

Thank you for sharing this easy method.
I use a firefox plugin (forgot the name) but it takes “forever” to load the pages.
I never thought that there is such a plugin for firefox. I am going to use it right away. You have a very interesting blog here.
Another easy way to check it is to right click on a link when using firefox and press properties. A little popup will tell you if the link is external or nofollow.
@ Flash design. Great tip. I never knew you could do that. All this time I was viewing source.
I will tell you another easier way to find if a particular type of link is dofollow or not.
Just right click the link and click on PROPERTIES. There you will not miss to find if a link is dofollow or not. Try it now, its much much easier.
Must install firefox and get that plugin.
